We’ve all been there. Gained a few pounds for whatever reason. Life got busy. The holidays happened. The gym got lost. So we say, “I can run anywhere, I’ll just start running.” We tell our friends our plans to get more active or change our diet and they root for us. But something happens somewhere between “I want to” and “I will.” We give in to a diet filled with countless cups of coffee, whole bags of chips, donuts and inactivity (or maybe that’s just me). But what if a blob of negatively followed you around, rooting for your failure, would that motivate you to kick butt?
The MEDL team had the great pleasure of working on the first endless running game that endlessly eggs you on. Beat the Blerch is a demotivational game that seeks to avert your victory by cheering on bad decisions like eat whatever you want, run less (like not at all) and more. It’s based on the best-selling book The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons Why I Run Long Distances by The Oatmeal comic series creator Matthew Inman and brought to you by Saucony who wanted the app ready to launch for the annual Beat the Blerch Marathon in Seattle, WA.
