Boxhead FAQ
How do I play?
You are Jon Bambo and your mission is to kill as many zombies and devils as you possibly can. The more you kill in a row, the higher your points multiplier goes. And as you hit new, higher multipliers, you get new, more powerful weapons. But stay away from the zombies and don’t get too close to the devils. They’ll maul you and breathe fire at you. And once your health bar runs out, you’re zombie dinner. Many of the zombies and all of the devils are carrying a special box. When you kill them, pick up the box to receive even more ammunition or to replenish your lost health. Advance levels, blast away, and try to get the highest score possible.
How do I change weapons?
Tap the icon for the weapon you are using. You’ll get a complete display of which weapons you’ve got, which ones you don’t, and how much ammo you’ve got left. You can also tap the weapon button if the action gets too intense. The zombies pause while you’re changing weapons. How polite.
What are the different weapons?
The Pistol is your basic weapon. And you’ll never run out of bullets. But beware, it’s difficult to shoot a zombie when you’re up close in hand-to-hand combat. Step back a little for better aim.
Next up is the Shotgun. You get 40 bullets at a time and every shotgun blast does lots of damage. It also sprays a little wider to destroy any zombies in your path.
The C4 Charge is a custom weapon especially for the iPhone. You get five at a time. Place them down - then touch the C4 charge on the screen to make it explode and take out any nearby zombies.
The Barrels can be used for offense or defense. You get 20 barrels at a time. Set up a row of barrels to protect your position. When you shoot a barrel, it explodes and takes out any zombies near it. Set up a chain of barrels and watch the chain reaction go.
Barricades are used for defense. You get 20 at a time. Set up a wall and fight from behind it. Or create an entire protected fort and let the zombies and devils come to you. But one word of caution. If you close yourself off entirely from the rest of the map, the zombies won’t be able to find you - and your game will be over.
The Turret Machine Gun will blast away zombies and devils automatically. Each time you pick up turrets, you get six of them. Set them up in a row or place them around the screen. But don’t get too cocky. Eventually they’ll run out of ammunition - and the zombies will be angry! There’s only one down side to the turrets. You won’t get any boxes from a zombie or devil killed by turret fire.
The Minigun comes with 100 rounds of ammunition. And it goes through them fast. Use the mini gun to spray down hordes of zombies and strike down the devils.
Barrels, C4 Charges, Barricades and Turrets won’t last forever. The devil fire and the zombie attacks will destroy them.
What multiplier do I need to reach to get each of the weapons?
Just hit the pause button and you’ll get the multiplier list. You’ll also get lots of extra useful information. Like the number of zombies you’ve killed, the distance you’ve travelled, and your highest level.
What are the different levels?
Beginner - Start with a basic pistol and wander the map to find the zombies. It starts out kinda easy. But don’t get too comfortable. As you advance levels, the number of zombies - and their intensity - will start to heat up.
Intermediate - Start on level 6. Now you’ve got zombies AND devils to look out for. You also start with an additional weapon - the shotgun.
Nightmare - It takes serious skill to even stay alive at the start of level 12. The zombies and devils come at you from every angle. Of course, you’ll get almost a full arsenal to start the game. And you’ll need it all to survive.
What Options can I control?
By tapping the Options button on the main screen, you can adjust the joypad/fire button to be left/right or right/left. You can also set it for accelerometer play to navigate Jon Bambo by twisting, turning and angling your iPhone. And you can turn off the sound for those times when Boxhead must be played in silent.
Why does it ask for my email when I get a high score?
From time to time, we’ll have Boxhead competitions and awards for high scores. And this is the best way for us to stay in touch with you as we make upgrades in the game.
What's coming next?
We are already at work on new levels, new weapons and even more surprises direct from the mind of Sean T. Cooper.
